Sinhala & Tamil New Year Festival
Witness the traditions and cultures of both Sinhala and Tamil citizens as Srilankan's celebrate their national New Year. Sinhalese new year celebrations begins with the customary bathing on the last day of the old year and viewing the moon on the same night. On this day people visit the temple and special prayers are offered to Lord Buddha and other Gods and Goddesses. The festival unfolds with traditional games. Various types of food both sweet and hot. It's a fun filled time to visit and participate where traditional milk rice "kiribath" is served in all home as well as hotels during the start of the New Year and followed with various games during the festive season.
